A Fabulous Victorian Oak And Mahogany Inlaid Longcase Clock c.Mid-19th Century.
The hood with a swan necked pediment and brass capped free standing reeded columns. Satinwood inlay to the pediment, surmounted with a fluted brass finial. Contrasting inlays to the trunk with canted corners. Short trunk door with concave top corners, diamond patera and crossbanding. Plinth with integral shaped feet.
12” wide painted dial with matching spandrel comprising floral bouquets on a blue background, the arch depicting a country house. Minute band with Roman numerals. Stamped matching brass hands. Subsidiary seconds dial and arched date aperture. Signed “Musson” “Louth”. Dial pinned directly to the four pillar 8-day weight driven tack striking movement, recoil anchor escapement striking the hours on a bell. Height 84”.
Baldus (Balthazar) Musson. From Baden, Germany, working in Market Place, Louth (Lincs) 1835. Naturalised 1861-8. Succeeded by his son, George Balthazar Musson 1872-1920.
