A Fabulous Ancient Roman Bronze Figure Of Mercury, Circa Late 1st Century AD.

A figure of the young god shown wearing a winged cap or petasus with cloak draped over his shoulder. I’m his left hand he holds a caduseus and in his right a purse. Mercury was the messenger of the gods and was also patron of merchants and commerce - hence the purse. The figure is set on the usual hollow drum base. Details of this figurine are of good style which would suggest a late first century date.
